Through Pisces to Aquarius III

             III
The seeds of empty promises
Soon sprout a shallow happiness
That flowers as despairing rage
In those benefiting the least
From material convenience.
Cities violently erupt,
Becoming harbingers of fear
That quickly spread throughout the land.

An exploding population
Consumes poisoned water and air;
Deserts grow, forests fall or burn,
While erratic shifts in weather
Turn mud to dust, dust to flood.

Until the queen orders it done,
The ants won’t abandon the hill;
Regardless of growing unease
They continue to blindly build.
