“A stranger walked into town”

A stranger walked into town,
A dog at his side
And pack on his back.
He inquired of the townsfolk,
Receiving only cold long stares
And no reply,
For no one could look
This man directly in the eye.

Possibly it was the magnanimity
Of his entire soul,
For I could see the warmth
Of his very presence.
