The morning garden chatter spoke
Of the ripening chokecherries:
In a week the firm green berries
Have become a plump burgundy.

Soon after the fledglings have flown
The annual gathering begins
With errant flights of drunkenness;
Ending in somber discussions
Of migratory timeliness.

Various books of scripture lay
   For our opened eyes to see,
   A testament from all cultures
   Of the world that is to be.
In spectrum’s spiritual array
   Peoples of all colors and creeds
      In silent reverence converse,
      Warning of temptation’s vultures
      That pilot desire’s mortal hearse.
   In scripture Providence’s seed
Is sown to grow and show the way
   For man to quench his thirstful need
   To live life, unshackled and freed.
