    The Prophetic Wind

    Children of the Barbarian:
Your days may seem without number,
    But can be counted nonetheless.
    By worshipping gods of progress
    Your essence has been forsaken.
    When this Truth is comprehended
    The sudden, outraged reaction
Will not halt the polluted flow
    Of your futureless future dream.

    May I Say We

There is but little to say—
The cup from which I drink
         And is me
      	Is emptying. . .
         The last drops evaporate
         While the remaining residue
         Awaits cleansing.

Epiphany on the Palouse – C. The Oath

    I promise to solemnly wear
The Joe Friday Only the Facts
    Badge number seven fourteen,
    With mirror, as a reminder
    Of when Mussolini Jones read
    From the Temple balcony:
    Discovering that Poet & Audience
    Were not only One,
But the same One. Death to Poetry!
Became Birth of the Second Law,
    And the NonPoetry Movement.

    “Fireflies at twilight”

    Fireflies at twilight
    Illumine the Blue Ridge Christ
    As it catches leaves

    Blown from the disrobing trees
    On winds of changing season

    July Morning

    Through the pink falling rain
    The illusive catbird
    Clearly calls me by name

    Hanging from folded clouds
    Rainbow fragments
    Vanish Reappear
    Then lengthen and double
    Brushstroking
    The reflected mountains
    To leave the lake awash
    In kaleidoscopic color

    For Brenda

           Poetry
    Is the fragrance
    	Of each moment
           Inhaled
    	During each life
           Exhaled
    	Toward a future
           Envisioned
    	Now

    Through Pisces to Aquarius V

                    V
Ones and zeros. Zeros and ones.
    In proper combinations,
Our loved ones become the graphics
    On ever faster computer screens.
All problems can be solved with more
    Available information;
    Efficiency becomes the key
    To a positive bottom line.
    Compute more data. Garbage in,
More garbage out, up, down, around.

“We become strangers to each other”

We become strangers to each other
    And also to our selves.
    Our paths have strayed
    Although we are together.
    Friendly bonds grow
    To become what they will.
    A painful re-acquaintance is undertaken,
For we stand at the crossroads—
    Of love?

    “Leaving our footprints”

    Leaving our footprints
    In the sands of time
    We walk till sunset
    Your hand in mine.
