Far Away

Far away the children play
In a world shrouded in innocence.
Let them play—
And learn to deal with life.

Today we play
With life and love
As pawns on a chessboard.
We forget innocence
In our ever thickening shell
Of fear
Of our fellow man;
Yet knowing we must live together
On the island earth.

Far away the children play,
As we introduce night into day.
Let them play—
Without the fears we have constructed
Through the years,
And the loves we have shattered
With life’s tears.

Far away the children play—
Feeling the sun and its warmth today,
While reaching for cloudless skies
With only innocence in their eyes.
